Walk the Salt Path – From Polmanter Touring Park, St Ives

9th May 2025

If you’re someone who gets itchy feet the moment you see a windswept clifftop on screen, then this one’s for you. The Salt Path, the much-anticipated film adaptation of Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir, hits cinemas on 30th May 2025 — and we’re quietly thrilled about it.

Why? Because it puts one of our favourite things in the spotlight: the South West Coast Path.

Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, the film tells the true story of Raynor and her husband Moth, who — after losing their home and receiving a life-changing diagnosis — set off to walk the 630-mile trail that snakes along England’s wild western edge. What starts as a desperate escape becomes a journey of healing, resilience and rediscovery, all set against the raw, beautiful backdrop of the UK’s longest National Trail.

As Raynor puts it:

“The SWCP is more than just a path — it’s a transformative landscape, both challenging and healing, and available to all of us.”

The South West Coast Path runs from Minehead in Somerset, around the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, and finishes in Poole, Dorset — with 630 miles of sea views, headlands, hidden coves and windswept moorland in between. You don’t have to walk it all (though some do — it takes around 52 days!), and it’s easily accessed in bite-size chunks from hundreds of points along the route.

We’re lucky to have some of the most dramatic stretches of the path right here in West Cornwall, and with Polmanter Touring Park just a short stroll from St Ives, you’re perfectly placed to walk your own little piece of it — whether you’re doing a few miles or feeling brave enough to go full Raynor and Moth.

  • Clodgy Point loop – A shorter coastal walk with incredible sea views, perfect if you’re low on time but big on scenery.
