Summer Activities at Polmanter
12th August 2019
We’re well into the summer holidays now, and Polmanter has really sprung to life. There’s plenty going on here for our guests, and there’s a lovely, lively atmosphere.
It’s good to take a break from all the beaching and sightseeing, and spend some time simply relaxing on site. Schedules and finer details can change from year to year, but here’s a taster of what’s on at Polmanter for the 2019 season.
Music at Polmanter
After a busy day out exploring West Cornwall, what could be more relaxing than an evening in Polmanter’s Stable Bar, chilling out to the sounds of live acoustic music? By day, he’s one of our hard-working groundsmen – but on Friday evenings, Gareth grabs his guitar and takes centre stage in the bar.
He has a wonderful laid-back style and a gorgeous voice, and his Friday sets have become a real highlight for many of our regular guests. (Don’t just take our word for it. Check out his reviews on TripAdvisor!)
Entertainment in the Bar
Who can resist a good old game of Bingo? Come to the Stable Bar on Sunday and Thursday evenings for some retro fun. Play for a line or a full house and you could win a cash prize, whilst helping to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care.
On Tuesday evenings, join us for one of Liz’s Quizzes. Quiz Master Liz keeps the teams in check, while throwing out all sorts of challenging general knowledge questions.
On Wednesday evenings, the kids take over. Carla hosts a children’s party, complete with much-loved party games and plenty of dancing. It’s held in the conservatory, so Mum and Dad can watch the fun while relaxing with a drink…
Playtime – whatever the weather
Of course, every day’s a party when you’re under ten and on your summer holidays. We have two outdoor playgrounds, one suitable for littlies, and a larger, adventure-style one for older kids.
On damper days, the kids can let off steam in Polmanter’s indoor soft play area. It’s suitable for a range of ages, with a cute little baby area and a climbing wall for adventurous older kids. There are also tables and chairs for supervising parents – much more comfortable than watching them on the slides in a rainy field…
And for older kids…
If you’re here with teens or older kids, our games room is a popular hang-out. Part of the Stable Bar complex, it’s recently had a refurb, creating a comfortable and contemporary space. There are two pool tables, table tennis and comfy seats.
We’d also like to reassure teenagers that yes, Polmanter has WiFi! It’s provided by Camping Connect, and there are three levels to choose from: free (60 mins per day), Basic (paid for) and Premium (paid for, and fast enough for streaming).
Sports at Polmanter
You can hire a tennis court for an hour for £5, and balls and racquets can be hired from Reception for £2.50. There are two all-weather courts at Polmanter – and although we say so ourselves, you’ll be hard-pushed to find courts anywhere else with such stunning views.
If you want a game for the whole family, try the putting green (at the far end of the adventure playground). The putters and balls are kept at Reception, and are free to borrow.
For more free-form sports, head to the sports field at the top of the site. Some great football tournaments spring up here – there’s always someone to kick a ball about with.
Then there’s one of Polmanter’s star attractions – the outdoor heated swimming pool. Serious swimmers will be pleased to know that we hold an adults-only session every morning, giving you the chance to bang out a few lengths before it gets busy.
Missing your weekly class? Join in with our Tuesday evening bootcamp class. MPS Fitness bootcamp takes place on the sports field, and costs £5 per session. It starts at 6:30pm, and runs for one intense hour.
Anyone for tennis? We have a tennis coach on site every Tuesday morning, who holds free 30-minute sessions for the kids. Please talk to Reception about times and how to book your children a place. Whether they’re a beginner or simply want to hone their skills, this half hour session is a great active way to start the day!
Activities don’t have to be high-octane. You can book a pamper session with Kim at our Escape treatment rooms, or simply lie on a lounger by the pool. Borrow a novel from our bookswap scheme and find a quiet spot to read. There’s pure joy to be found in these moments of stillness, too.
If you’re coming to stay with us this summer, we hope this has given you a taste of what’s happening at Polmanter. If you’re not coming down to St Ives in 2019 – see you next summer…?
Please note these activities are correct as of August 2019 and can change on a yearly basis. When booking, please ask Reception to confirm entertainment and facilities available for your holiday dates.
